Q&A: Learn more about candidates running for Fort Bend County treasurer

Why did you choose to run for this position?

I am running for reelection because safeguarding taxpayer dollars requires proven experience, continuity and sound judgment. Since 2019, I have strengthened financial controls, modernized payment processes and kept the Treasurer’s Office operating through emergencies. I want to continue that work as Fort Bend County enters its next period of growth.

What are your qualifications for why you’d be a strong candidate in this role?

I have served as county treasurer since 2019 and bring more than 30 years of private-sector executive leadership managing complex global operations, budgets and technology. I have completed more than 380 hours of specialized treasury and investment education and have modernized operations, strengthened fraud controls and improved continuity.

What is your top priority if elected to represent the citizens of Fort Bend County?

My top priority is protecting public funds while maintaining the liquidity needed for payroll, vendors, debt service and emergencies. I will continue strengthening fraud prevention, cash-flow forecasting, secure electronic payments and investment practices that follow Texas law’s priorities: preservation of principal, liquidity and responsible yield.

What do you think is the most pressing issue for Fort Bend County, and what will you do to address it?

Fort Bend County’s rapid growth is the most pressing countywide challenge because it increases demands on infrastructure and services while pressuring taxpayers. As treasurer, I will address the financial side: reliable cash-flow planning, strong controls, scalable technology, transparent reporting and disciplined management of county funds.

How do you plan to involve residents in the decision-making process?

I will keep the office accessible and responsive, publish understandable financial reports, answer public-information requests thoroughly and explain how county funds are safeguarded and invested. Resident questions should help identify where reporting needs greater clarity. Transparency means providing useful information—not simply posting documents that are difficult to interpret.

How should the county prepare to address its fast-growing population?

The county should plan for growth before demand overwhelms systems. In the Treasurer’s Office, that means scalable technology, secure electronic workflows, cross-trained staff, reliable disaster-continuity procedures and fund-by-fund cash forecasting. Countywide, long-range capital planning and coordination among county, city, school and utility leaders are essential.

I raised my family in Fort Bend and remain connected to the community. I bring proven financial leadership, community engagement and ethical governance to the Treasurer’s office. I'm ready to lead a responsive and transparent office that connects with the community. I’m trusted, tested and ready to serve—on day one.

What are your qualifications for why you’d be a strong candidate in this role?

I bring over a decade of banking experience and eight years of elected public service on Missouri City Council, where I served as Mayor Pro Tem and chair of finance. I’m multifaceted, with experience managing millions of dollars across banking, government, business, nonprofits, economic development and insurance.

What is your top priority if elected to represent the citizens of Fort Bend County?

In addition to ensuring strong internal controls and responsibly modernizing the Treasurer's Office, I plan to connect it to the community—as a resource for working families and small businesses. I plan to expand financial literacy and access to resources across the entire county for youth, adults and small businesses.

What do you think is the most pressing issue for Fort Bend County, and what will you do to address it?

Transparency—it has to be something residents can actually see and understand. We must have a precinct-level spending report showing taxpayers where their county dollars are going—how much is being spent in each precinct, what they are spent on, and which major projects, services or contracts those expenditures support.

How do you plan to involve residents in the decision-making process?

I will launch T.O.T.A.L.—an initiative designed to ensure residents understand how public funds are collected, safeguarded, invested and disbursed, and why it matters to their everyday lives. There will be a diverse advisory council, representing every precinct, who'll provide feedback and help strengthen outreach efforts.

How should the county prepare to address its fast-growing population?

As Fort Bend grows toward one million residents, I’ll proactively work with county leaders and focus on financial planning and data-driven forecasting. Through responsible modernization, strengthening internal controls, and coordinating with county departments and regional partners, we can responsibly support this inevitable growth, while protecting taxpayers and maintaining core services.
