Bonchon Katy opened in late May at 24437 I-10, Ste. 100, Katy. The Katy restaurant is the Korean fried chicken franchise's only location in Texas. The restaurant makes Korean fried chicken in three different styles—wings, drums and strips—with two different sauces—spicy and soy garlic. Combo chicken, which comes with both wings and drumsticks, and half and half, which comes with both sauce flavors, are also available. "[Having a smaller chicken selection] really helps with maintaining our quality because if you had 20 flavors going on, you wouldn't be able to focus on the quality of the chicken itself," said Jim Blackman, who owns Bonchon Katy along with his wife, Wenny Blackman. [totalpoll id="165201"] Though the chain takes a minimalistic approach with its chicken choices, Bonchon's menu includes other specialities, such as Korean tacos, house fried rice and a salmon avocado ball. The establishment also offers a full-service bar that features beer, wine, liquor and a traditional Korean alcohol called soju—a distilled beverage made from potatoes that is served in a variety of different flavors. "We've lived here and had businesses in the community for over 13 years," Jim Blackman said. "And when I had my first bite of [Bonchon] chicken I said, 'we've got to do this in Katy.'" Bonchon Katy is open Mon.-Thu. 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Fri.-Sat. 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. and Sun. 11 a.m.-9 p.m. 281-394-9188. www.katytx.bonchon.com
