The Texas Department of Transportation is in the process of widening 38 miles of Hwy. 290 from Loop 610 to FM 2920 with main lanes varying from four to six lanes in each direction, frontage roads and High Occupancy Vehicle managed lanes.

The project is funded by TxDOT, but the Harris County Toll Road Authority is also contributing $200 million. The project is projected to cost $2.4 billion and is expected to be completed by 2017.

Public meetings to provide updates on the project are planned for early 2015. Exact meeting dates will be announced by TxDOT officials in late December.
