The following lane closures are scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 8 as a part of the Hwy. 290 expansion project.
Hwy. 290 eastbound and westbound mainlanes at Barker Cypress will be closed throughout the weekend, starting 9 p.m. Aug. 8 until 5 a.m. Aug. 11. Motorists will be detoured to the frontage road as work crews continue reconstructing the Barker Cypress Bridge.
Over the same period of time, the Hwy. 290 westbound frontage road will be closed at the Barker Cypress intersection. Motorists will be detoured to the nearby westbound frontage road connector and can reenter the frontage road past Barker Cypress.
The portion of Barker Cypress Road over Hwy. 290 will be closed over the weekend as well. Northbound motorists will be detoured along the Hwy. 290 frontage road to Telge Road and can U-turn to get back to Barker Cypress. Southbound motorists will be detoured to the frontage road for a U-turn at Skinner Road.
The Hwy. 290 eastbound frontage road from Jones Road to FM 529 will be closed from 9 p.m. Aug. 8 through 5 a.m. Aug. 11. The eastbound exit ramp to FM 529 and Senate Avenue will also be closed. Eastbound drivers looking to access FM 529 or Senate can continue to the exit at Gessner Road and U-turn.
The Senate Avenue U-turn opportunities for eastbound and westbound frontage road traffic are also closed until 5 a.m. Aug. 25. Westbound traffic can continue to the Jones Road U-turn. Eastbound traffic U-turns at Beltway 8.
Farther inbound, the northbound and southbound portion of Gessner Road traveling under Hwy. 290 will be closed over the weekend as crews work to demolish the westbound mainlane bridge structure over Gessner. Drivers on Gessner looking to cross Hwy. 290 will be detoured to the Hwy. 290 frontage road where they will have to U-turn.
