An effort to improve mobility on Huffmeister Road is halfway complete as two of four street widening projects are done with the final two in the design phase.

The overall scope of the improvements extend from Cypress Church Road to Stablefield Lane and involves replacing an existing two-lane asphalt roadway with a four-lane concrete boulevard with a raised median and underground storm sewer system.

The projects are intended to improve mobility and drainage on Huffmeister, said Randy Schilhab, manager of engineering with Harris County Precinct 3. Benefits at the completed sections have already been noticed, he said.

"The new four-lane roadway has improved safety," Schilhab said. "The raised median and left turn lanes reduces the accident potential by approximately 30 percent."
