Robin Marshall opened Toffee Cellar in October 2016 on Tamina Road in Magnolia near the Farmer’s Market on Tamina. The business offers eight flavors each of handcrafted toffee and cupcakes. “I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart, so this came naturally,” Marshall said. “I love the creativity behind creating a business and selling something. It’s just a lot of fun.” Marshall said she first thought of her business idea after tasting homemade toffee for the first time while living in California. She then began researching toffee recipes. “I tried it a million different ways,” Marshall said. “I ended up taking things from the different recipes I liked and started making milk chocolate pecan. I was always thinking, ‘I could sell this.’” Marshall said she started Toffee Cellar as a home-based business when she lived in Nashville with her family. By the time her family came to Texas, Marshall was selling her toffee to Marriott Hotels and at conferences, she said. After a few years of living in Texas, Marshall opened up the Magnolia storefront. “It is different having a storefront and a full-time commitment. It’s crazy and exciting that I am actually here now—after all these years of thinking about it,” she said. Marshall said the business offers decorated cupcakes and toffee for special holidays in addition to custom orders for businesses in which she incorporates the business logo and colors. She also customizes packages for schools, birthdays and parties. Marshall said the largest percentage of her clientele is businesses buying corporate gifts for Christmas. The toffee is sold in half-pound increments and comes in bags, gift boxes and mini towers.
