Here's an April update on four road projects taking shape in Tomball and Magnolia.

1. Holderrieth Road reconstruction

Harris County Precinct 3 began construction in March to reconstruct the two-lane roadway and widen it to a four-lane concrete boulevard between Hwy. 249 to west of Hufsmith-Kohrville Road in Tomball. The project aims to improve safety and capacity for vehicles, according to Precinct 3 officials.

Timeline: March 2023-second quarter 2024

Cost: $27.1 million


Funding source: Harris County Precinct 3

2. FM 1488 raised median construction

Construction had yet to start on a Texas Department of Transportation project to add a raised median along FM 1488 between Mostyn Drive in Magnolia and I-45 as of an April 1 update. The project was awarded to ISI Contracting Inc.

Timeline: first quarter 2023-fourth quarter 2025


Cost: $10.22 million

Funding sources: TxDOT, federal

3. FM 1488 widening

According to an April update from TxDOT, the widening of FM 1488 between FM 1774 in Magnolia to west of FM 149 is 22% complete. The project, underway by James Construction Group, will widen the road from two to four lanes with a continuous left-turn lane.


Timeline: June 2022-first quarter 2025

Cost: $48.28 million

4. FM 1488 widening west of Magnolia


TxDOT is also widening FM 1488 west of the city of Magnolia from the Waller County line near Joseph Road to FM 1774. The project is 64% complete as of an April update and will widen FM 1488 from two to four lanes with a continuous left-turn lane.

Timeline: November 2020-third quarter 2023

Cost: $30.33 million
