The widening of the first of two segments of FM 2978 from two to four lanes between Hufsmith-Conroe Road and south of Dry Creek—near Hardin Store Road—was originally set to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2019. However, construction completion has been delayed to the third quarter of 2020 due to weather delays, utility relocations and additional detention ponds and right turn lanes, according to early October information from the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOT Public Information Officer Emily Black said TxDOT is also accelerating the construction of the FM 2978 and Northgrove Parkway intersection at the request of a Montgomery County utility district, which has contributed to the delay in widening FM 2978. The widening of the second segment of FM 2978, from FM 1488 to south of Dry Creek, will not be delayed, according to TxDOT information. Segment 2 of the project was 36% complete as of early October. Timeline: January 2018-third quarter 2020 (Segment 1), September 2018-second quarter 2021 (Segment 2) Cost: $12.9 million (Segment 1), $21.3 million (Segment 2) Funding source: TxDOT
