Update: As the project is unfunded at this time, there is no estimated start date for the project, said Emily Black, Texas Department of Transportation public information officer.
The Texas Department of Transportation has proposed a widening of FM 2920 from Hwy. 249 to Business 290 by adding one lane in each direction, according to TxDOT information. Despite public meetings held in 2018, the widening project is still five to 10 years away, TxDOT’s online project tracker tool shows. The two-part project would widen FM 2920 between Business 290 and Cypress Rosehill Road to a four-lane, divided roadway and widen the road to six lanes between Cypress Rosehill and Hwy. 249 with a center median, according to TxDOT information. Work on the project is estimated to cost $131.2 million, according to TxDOT.
TxDOT submitted the FM 2920 project to the Houston-Galveston Area Council for funding consideration as part of H-GAC’s 2018 Call for Projects to help move the project along, but H-GAC did not recommend the project for funding at a March 22 committee meeting. Still, construction is proposed for 2024, according to H-GAC’s 2018 Call for Projects draft ranking.
