Totaling over $6 million, 31 grants will be awarded to Houston-area veteran service organizations on Sept. 7, according to a Sept. 5 news release.

The Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance will award 31 grants totaling $6.9 million to 26 organizations around the Greater Houston area, according to the news release. The grants will go toward supporting services such as financial assistance, transportation, legal services and home modification.

The grants being awarded were approved in May as part of more than $36.3 million in grants awarded to organizations across the state, according to the news release.
Since 2009, over $270 million in grant funding has been awarded to organizations in the state, helping serve around 481,000 Texas veterans and their families, according to the news release.
