Drowning is a quiet and quick event—happening in as little as 30 seconds—said Jenny Bennett, a trauma nurse at HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball who founded drowning-prevention organizations Swim Safe Forever Northwest Houston and Parents Preventing Childhood Drowning. Bennett’s son, Jackson, drowned in the family’s pool at 18 months old in 2016. Childhood drowning can happen to any family, she said. However, there are several steps parents in Tomball and Magnolia can take to prevent drowning accidents.
