The window to register to vote is closing. The last day is Feb. 5.
Early voting for the March primary election starts Feb. 20 and ends March 2. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is Feb. 23. The primary elections will take place March 6. Check voter registration status or register to vote at
www.VoteTexas.gov.
What is required to register?
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be a resident of the county to which you applied
- Be 18 years old
- Not be a convicted felon, unless a person’s sentence is completed, including any probation or parole
- Not declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law

Applications can be faxed but the application must also be mailed and received by the fourth business day after the fax is received for it to be accepted. The fax number is 936-538-8143.

Online a voter can check status, poll location, early voting locations, registration information and key election dates.
Voter registration status can also be verified by using VUID (Voter Unique Identifier located on your voter registration certificate) or Texas Driver’s License and the voter’s date of birth.
What kind of identification will I need when I go to vote?
The following forms of photo identification can be used when voting:
- A Texas Driver’s License, current or expired no more than four years
- A Texas personal identification card, current or expired no more than four years
- A Texas Election Identification Certificate, current or expired no more than four years
- An S. military identification card, current or expired no more than four years
- A Texas license to carry, current or expired no more than four years
- A U.S. passport, current or expired no more than four years
- A U.S. citizenship certificate containing a photo
If you do not possess one of these documents, you can fill out a declaration at the polls explaining why not and bring one of these supporting documents to prove your identity:
- A valid voter registration certificate
- A certified birth certificate must be an original
- A copy of an original bank statement
- A copy of an original government check or paycheck
- A copy of an original current utility bill
- A copy of an original government document with your name and address. An original copy will be required if it contains a photograph.
If you have neither an accepted photo ID nor a supporting document, you will be allowed to vote provisionally. In this case, you will have six days following the election to bring an acceptable document to the voter registrar.
Voters with documented disabilities who have not obtained one of the approved photo IDs can apply with the county voter registrar for a permanent exemption to the rule.
When is the last day to register to vote?
The last day to register to vote is Monday, Feb. 5.
