Last April marked the one-year anniversary of the completion of Phase 1 of the Tomball Tollway, a 6-mile tolled portion of Hwy. 249 from Northpointe Boulevard to FM 2920. When complete, the roadway will run through Magnolia on up to Hwy. 105 near Navasota, earning the nickname, the Aggie Expressway, for its close proximity to College Station.

Beginning in March, Harris County will begin work on Phase 2 of the project, which will stretch from north of FM 2920 to the Harris/Montgomery county line. Montgomery County will begin work in November, Montgomery County approved an interlocal agreement to allow Harris County workers to cross the county line during construction. 

Phase 2 of the extension is expected to be complete in late 2019, according to the city of Tomball.
