Tomball City Council unanimously approved, on first reading, an ordinance to rezone 7.06 acres at 13013 Medical Complex Drive for a new assisted living and memory care facility during its March 17 meeting.

The details

Previously zoned as agricultural, the land is set to be designated for general retail to accommodate the project, Everwood Reserve.

Andrea Ameen, who will act as CEO, described Everwood Reserve as a high-end, home-like community featuring two 10,000-square-foot residential-style buildings for 16 residents each, with private bedrooms, a chef and secured outdoor spaces.

"The whole idea is to really elevate the assisted living industry, therefore enriching lives,” Ameen said. “We are designed for more than just care. We really want to create a lifestyle of comfort, connection and curated well-being.”

The facility will also house a hair salon, common rooms and support for families, like educational programs, Ameen said, with the potential for community gardens, walking paths and a playground open to the community.

“We really want to provide a holistic, immersive wellness approach,” Ameen said. “So one of the things that we're focusing on is how to engage and maintain the five senses, because that's also very important in memory care.”

What they’re saying
  • “I did some calling around, because I like to [do that] before businesses come in. I want to take care of businesses that are here,” council member Paul Garcia said. “I was shocked that all of [the facilities] are full, 95%, so there is a need for this in this community.”
  • “[We're] so excited to have [Ameen] here,” community member Colleen Pye said. “The elderly are suffering, and they need places to go, and ... I know we have several, but we need more, because there are waiting lines and ... it takes a long time to get an elderly person that needs to be there.”
What’s next

City Council approved the ordinance allowing the rezoning on first reading. The second and final reading is expected at a future meeting.
