During its March 3 meeting, Tomball City Council approved as part of the consent agenda—on which items are approved with one motion without discussion—the purchase of new Tasers for the police department for $225,653.

The details

The contract with Axon Enterprises Inc. for the replacement of all 46 Tasers, cartridges, holsters and battery packs will begin May 1 and end April 30, 2029, according to the agenda. Axon Enterprises Inc. has supplied Tasers to the police department for the last 20 years.

According to the agenda, the payments for the $225,653 are broken down as follows and will be paid through the police department’s annual operating budget:

• Year 1: $35,000
• Years 2-5: $47,663.36

The city will use excess grant funds received in 2021 to pay the first-year payment, according to the agenda.
