The details
Tomball City Council unanimously agreed on seven legislative priorities for the city, according to a Jan. 13 agenda.
These priorities and concerns include:
- Protection of the ability to participate in statewide organizations like the Texas Municipal League, which allows for cost-effective services for the city
- Bills that restrict the city’s ability to issue debt for infrastructure projects, which the city uses to fund capital projects like the Baker Drive water plant
- Bills that prevent the City Council's authority to respond to residents' needs
- Bills that would remove the city’s ability to decide zoning changes, lot size, tree preservation, short-term rentals and building codes
- Bills centered around the restriction of collecting needed revenues.
- Bills that allow voluntary de-annexation of property, which can lead to service gaps in the area
