During its Jan. 6 meeting, Tomball City Council approved the city’s first tree preservation ordinance, which aims to protect the city’s green space amidst growth.

The overview

The tree ordinance protects 44 tree types, which council members collaborated on prior to and throughout workshop meetings, as previously reported.

Residents and developers within Tomball city limits will have to seek approval from city staff before cutting trees on their properties, according to the ordinance.
Zooming in

Enforcement of the ordinance will begin once proper outreach has been completed, such as social media posts, a FAQ page on the city’s website and utility bill notifications. Once enforcement begins, violators may be fined up to $2,000 each day of violations, according to the ordinance.
