During its Nov. 12 meeting, Magnolia City Council approved a lease agreement with GC Magnolia to house the first police substation for the city.

The details

Magnolia Police Department is in the works of having its first substation in the city, Police Chief Kyle Montgomery said in an interview Nov. 13. The office space—located within the Magnolia Village development near FM 1488 and Spur 149—is about 1,000 square feet and will act as a landing pad for officers to use on duty.

“With the amount of growth ... we have to dedicate an officer to that side of town at all times,” Montgomery said. “Rather than [on-duty officers having] to come back to the main office for something and sit and traffic, they can just go to the [substation] to do reports and it’ll keep them on that side of town and get them back in service quicker.”

While the building set to house the substation is already developed, now that the lease is signed, work on the inside of the substation can begin. There is no set completion date at this time, Montgomery said.
