Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect specific details of the program will be put forth to Tomball City Council at a later date.

During its Aug. 5 meeting, Tomball City Council approved the creation of a centenarian program.

The breakdown

The Tomball Centenarian Program will honor residents who turn 100 years old. Its purpose is to highlight residents' contributions to the community and learn from their experiences, according to the city’s presentation.

The details

An application will be available for consideration into the program. Part of the application will ask questions such as a resident's favorite quote. Family members or those who know the applicant may apply for them, according to the presentation.

Once accepted into the recognition program, the 100-year-old resident will be honored at an event put together on their behalf. A member of Tomball City Council will attend the event, and present a certificate and rose to them, according to the presentation.

Quote of note

“They’re a segment of the population that's kind of forgotten as they get older, especially because they might not be going to [city festivities] anymore,” Tomball City Manager Intern Ki Provencher said during the Aug. 5 presentation. “This is a very simple, inexpensive program to honor them and to show them that we're still thinking of them; it's a simple way to honor title members of our community.”
