The filing period for candidates interested in running for local office in the May 4 election closed Feb. 16. In Tomball and Magnolia, candidates have filed to run for local city and school board positions.

What you need to know

Early voting for the May elections will begin April 22 for city and school board races, according to the Texas Secretary of State. The last day to register to vote in the May election is April 4. To check your voter registration status, use the voter registration lookup tool on the Harris County or Montgomery County elections websites.

In Tomball, two City Council positions are up for election. Both incumbents, Position 2 council member Mark Stoll and Position 4 council member Derek Townsend Sr., did not file for re-election.
