Construction at Tomball’s Matheson Park is set to begin Oct. 19, Assistant City Manager Jessica Rogers said via email Oct. 17. The work will include:
- Adding pickleball courts
- Adding a splashpad
- Renovating the pool
- Installing new fencing
- Doing general improvements
During construction, access to the park will be limited to the children’s play area, pavilion, tennis courts and baseball field, Rogers said. Construction fencing will be also installed around the perimeter of the construction area.
How we got here
Plans to improve Matheson Park have been in the works since fall 2022, Community Impact previously reported.
In April, the city completed the park’s new playground and Tomball City Council previously approved:
- The purchase and construction of the splash pad at its May 15 meeting
- The purchase and installation of baseball netting at its Aug. 21 meeting
- An agreement to repair the swimming pool at its Sept. 5 meeting
- An agreement for construction of the pickleball courts, new pool fencing and trail site work at its Sept. 18 meeting
In total, improvements to Matheson Park are set to cost $2.37 million, according to the city’s website.
What else?
Construction on the various elements at Matheson Park will be completed concurrently when schedules overlap, with site work at the park and splash pad construction set to begin first, Rogers said.
The splash pad is anticipated to be the first of the elements completed, with the completion of the renovations to the pool following behind, Rogers said.
Stay tuned
Construction is anticipated to be "substantially completed" in late spring 2024, Rogers said. This does not include the completion of the walking trails.
