The city of Magnolia is looking to spend $293,141 to increase salaries by 3% for administrative personnel, the police chief and public works employees in its fiscal year 2023-24 budget, according to a budget workshop City Council held July 11.

The city of Magnolia is proposing $7.05 million in expenditures and $7.1 million in revenues in FY 2023-24, according to the summary of the preliminary budget.

When it comes to expenditures, the city is looking to increase:

  • The City Hall and administration budget by 16.88%
  • The police department budget by 34.98%
  • The public works budget by 19.75%

What else?

Besides a 3% salary increase for administrative personnel, the police chief and public works employees, some of the proposed budget’s major items as identified by the city include:

  • $500,000 on a project for Connie Street
  • $303,075 for an updated pay schedule for the police department
  • $54,139 for a new public works employee
  • $9,000 for a new Christmas light show

“This will put us up there where we need to be to be competitive and hire people that are good quality,” Magnolia Police Department Chief Kyle Montgomery said about the updated pay schedule proposed in the budget.
