Three rezoning requests were approved by Tomball City Council at its June 19 meeting for commercial, religious and light industrial projects.

Medical Complex Drive commercial, office project

City Council approved rezoning 2.73 acres along Medical Complex Drive from agricultural to office zoning. The original request was for rezoning to general retail, according to the June 19 agenda packet, but City Council expressed concern about that zoning because of the permitted uses under general retail.

Khoa Nguyen, the applicant, said he plans to open a dental office, and retail and restaurant businesses on the property. City Planner Jared Smith said Nguyen could come back and request conditional use permits for the retail and restaurant aspects of his project.

Real Life Ministries church site

There are 6.09 acres of land at the southwest corner of South Cherry Street and Medical Complex Drive that will serve as the site for Real Life Ministries’ church and were rezoned from light industrial and agricultural to office zoning. The original request was for rezoning to general retail, according to the June 19 agenda packet, but City Council expressed concern about that zoning because of the permitted uses under general retail.

Tommy Roberson, Real Life Ministries executive pastor, said along with the church, the property would house a sports field, two gymnasiums and a child care center. When the church is ready to move forward with its child care center, Real Life Ministries could come back and request a conditional use permit.

South Persimmon Street light industrial project

City Council approved rezoning 5.001 acres located along South Persimmon Street from single-family residential estate to light industrial. Applicant Tim Littlefield requested the rezoning to allow for office, warehouse and storage buildings on the property, according to the June 19 agenda packet.
