A classification and compensation study for the jobs within the city of Tomball and the Tomball Economic Development Corp. is underway after the Tomball City Council approved a professional services agreement with Paypoint HR at its April 3 meeting.

The agreement was approved as part of the consent agenda, on which items are approved with one motion without discussion.

Through the agreement, the city will pay Paypoint HR an amount not to exceed $37,500 to evaluate the classifications and competencies for each position in the city and the TEDC to “evaluate market competitiveness and make compensation recommendations,” according to the April 3 agenda packet.

In terms of compensation, the study will look at possible areas of improvement that will result in the creation of a pay structure and implementation guide that will be provided to the city in a final report.

The final step of the study will see employees trained on customized software that will allow the human resources department to “utilize the software to complete salary surveys and input new positions as the city continues to grow,” according to the agenda packet.

The study is tentatively anticipated to take no more than 16 weeks, according to the agenda packet.
