During its Dec. 21 special meeting, the Magnolia City Council approved an ordinance amending the administration portion of the city’s code of ordinances.

The newly approved ordinance allows the City Council to now meet every Tuesday, instead of just on the second Tuesday of each month, according to the agenda packet.

City Attorney Leonard Schneider said this change is so the council can hear appeals to denied exceptions or waivers to the temporary development moratorium.

Property owners who believe their development project falls within the exceptions of the temporary moratorium can apply for exceptions while property owners who would like to continue with the development permitting process during the temporary moratorium can request a waiver, according to the ordinance.

“All we’re doing is giving you the option of meeting every Tuesday of the month as a regular meeting,” Schneider said. “With that said, staff’s going to work very hard to try and keep that at a minimum.”

Schneider said this change is temporary through the length of the temporary development moratorium, which City Council also approved and enacted Dec. 21.
