Tomball City Council unanimously approved a 6% increase in water and wastewater rates for fiscal year 2022-23 during its Sept. 20 meeting.

Residential customers who use up to 10,000 gallons of water a month will pay a base rate of $11.55—up from $10.90—with a consumption charge of $3.02 per 1,000 gallons, which is a $0.17 increase from $2.85, according to the city's updated fee schedule.

For residential customers who use between 10,001-15,000 gallons of water a month, the new base rate will be $12.54 with a consumption charge of $3.77, while those who use 15,001 or more gallons of water a month will pay a $14.42 base rate and a $4.72 consumption charge.

“Rate increases were proposed and adopted in alignment with our adopted utility rate study, which was completed in 2018,” Assistant City Manager Jessica Rogers said in an email. “These rate changes only apply to city of Tomball utility rates and not rates charged by the North Harris County Regional Water Authority.”

The NHCRWA fees are pass-through fees, meaning rates charged by the NHCRWA are passed onto the consumer.

In terms of wastewater, residential service is now a base charge of $10.23 and a $3.57 volume charge, up from $9.65 and $3.37, respectively, according to city information.

Rates were also raised for commercial customers.
