Tomball will upgrade Matheson Park in 2022, including a new play structure, a pickleball court and a splash pad, Assistant City Manager Jessica Rogers said. The upgrades will be funded in part by grants from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Rogers said.
“Matheson Park is getting a little bit of a facelift,” Rogers said.
ESD 10, Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department complete transition
The Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department and Montgomery County Emergency Services District No. 10 transitioned to one entity Jan. 1. The entity will now be known as the Magnolia Fire Department.
MFD board President Larry Smith said the department’s main priorities for 2022 are purchasing new fire trucks, refurbishing Station Nos. 182 and 186, and rebuilding the department’s maintenance building. Station No. 182 is located at 27114 FM 2978, Magnolia, and Station No. 186 is located at 32707 FM 2978, Magnolia.
“We’re behind, and we’re trying to catch up,” Smith said.
Contested races on the ballot
A number of local contested races for county, state and federal positions are on the ballot in Tomball and Magnolia for the March 1 primary elections to determine candidates on the ballot for the Nov. 8 election. Early voting will begin Feb. 14 for the primary.
In the spring, local elections will also be held May 7.
Magnolia ISD trustee races for Position 1, held by Dacia Owens; Position 2, held by Sonja Ebel; and Position 3, held by Gary Blizzard, will be on the May 7 ballot.
Tomball and Magnolia city councils will also have races on the May 7 ballot.
The last day for candidates to file for a place on the May 7 ballot is Feb. 18.
