The city of Magnolia will see its first food truck yard—The Truck Shack—open on FM 1774 near the Magnolia Youth Sports Complex.

Magnolia City Council granted a conditional use permit to the owners of The Truck Shack at the Nov. 12 City Council meeting. The conditional use permit allows City Council members to review each conditional use permit application for an auto-urban commercial zone individually through the public hearing process, Tana Ross, economic development coordinator and planning technician for the city of Magnolia, said during the meeting.

"I will point out there is nothing restaurant-wise from [city hall] to that location, so you have a lot of [potential] users out there," Ross said.

The Truck Shack will be located on FM 1774 where the former Crawfish Shack used to be, she said, with six proposed pad sites for food trucks. Renovations to the previous Crawfish Shack building are underway, and upon completion it will house a bar with open seating, she said.

According to Ross, the idea is to have three permanent food trucks and two or three food trucks that rotate operating at The Truck Shack. Plans also include an adult and children's playground; however, a renovation completion date and an opening date could not be provided.
