According to a study by Templeton Demographics, Magnolia ISD could add more than 2,700 students by 2026-27, enrolling more than 15,500 students that fall. The enrollment projections account for several large residential developments proposed within MISD, many of which hinge on the completion of the Tomball Tollway extension—the tolled portion of Hwy. 249—through Montgomery County in 2020. The tollway lies within MISD boundaries.
During a presentation to the MISD board of trustees on July 17, demographer Bob Templeton said Magnolia Audubon, a proposed development along FM 1488, plans to begin utility work this fall. The community spans 2,600 acres, and more homes likely mean more school-age children enrolling in MISD, he said.
A growing enrollment and tax base yield more per-student revenue for MISD. However, increased enrollment also brings added expenditures, such as the cost of building new schools and hiring additional staff.
