Through ticket sales, sponsors and a silent auction, Magnolia nonprofit Society of Samaritans raised $30,000 during its Boots & Bling 30th anniversary celebration June 17. The organization operates a resale store and food pantry in Magnolia to help families in need with food, clothing, necessities and financial assistance.
SOS President Shirley Jensen said the nonprofit will use the funds raised during the benefit to assist flood victims in the area with home repairs and replace damaged items.
The proceeds will also allow SOS to increase its food donations during the summer months.
“There are 500 kids in Magnolia ISD that qualify for free breakfast and lunch throughout the school year that don’t receive it during the summer,” Jensen said. “So we’re able to add extra food to their weekly baskets that they receive from the [SOS] food pantry.”
In addition, Jensen said the money will also be used to fix freezer equipment at the food pantry and buy school supplies for elementary school students.
Jensen said the nonprofit is organizing its annual golf tournament to be held Sept. 26 at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club. It is also gearing up for its annual winter drive to provide bedding and coats for children.
