Abandoned Animal Rescue in Tomball is planning to raise $30,000 during its annual golf tournament this fall, said Karen Pitcock, volunteer and chairwoman of the golf tournament. The tournament is the largest fundraiser of the year for the volunteer-run, no-kill animal shelter and low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

All funds from the tournament go to AAR’s Star Fund and Fit-to-Stay Program, which allow the shelter to assist in saving dogs in the community as well as training dogs at the shelter.

“The Star Fund is for life saving circumstances for either public or shelter animals,” Pitcock said. “[Such circumstances] can be anywhere from surgeries for animals to save their lives to paying a pet deposit for someone.”

The 12th Annual AAR Golf Tournament will be held at Gleannloch Pines Golf Club in Spring on Oct. 10, and Pitcock said she would like to see 25 teams participate this year.

The registration fee—$150 per player or $600 per team—includes lunch, dinner and beer, she said.

At the moment, volunteers are AAR’s biggest need.

“We need everything from kennel cleaners to dog walkers to office help,” Pitcock said. “We always need people.”
