Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones is calling on budding artists from Precinct 4 school districts to help beautify the precinct's bus fleet with artwork that reflects the cultural perspectives and experiences of the community.

Students in grades ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade are being invited to submit their artwork as part of the contest "From Palette to Pavement: Student Art on Precinct 4 Buses." The following school districts are included:
  • Alief ISD
  • Cypress-Fairbanks ISD
  • Houston ISD
  • Katy ISD
  • Spring Branch ISD
  • Tomball ISD
  • Waller ISD

The Precinct 4 bus fleet serves the community's seniors and offers day trips to recreational and educational activities. The buses also provide transportation for emergency supplies during disasters, according to the news release.

Student artwork should adhere to the theme "The History of and Unity in Harris County," which is explained in the news release as:
  • Diversity of cultures that make up the region
  • Historical milestones and landmarks
  • Bayous and parks
  • Leaders and change-makers that helped shape the community
What parents should know

The contest is ongoing, and winners from each district will be selected and announced on a rolling basis.
