Jay Michals and Stacia Hamm Norris were sworn into positions 4 and 5, respectively, on Magnolia ISD’s board of trustees on May 15.

Jay Michals won the Position 4 seat in the MISD school board election on May 6, according to previous reporting. Michals was appointed to the board when former Trustee Kristi Baker stepped down from the board during a Nov. 14 school board meeting, according to previous reporting.

Stacia Hamm Norris won Position 5 and ran unopposed. Incumbent Joe Duncan withdrew from re-election, according to previous reporting. During the May 15 meeting, Superintendent Todd Stephens said Duncan had served in the district for 10 years and thanked Duncan for his work in the district.

“You’ve helped us become the best district we could be under your leadership,” Stephens said.

The board also reorganized their roles during the meeting and approved naming Gary Blizzard as board president; Travis Moffatt remains vice president of the board; Sonja Ebel has moved from assistant secretary to secretary; and Dacia Owens moved to assistant secretary.
