Magnolia ISD students improved their scores from 2021 in reading, math, science and social studies in the spring administration of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, according to results released July 1.

“Magnolia ISD showed significant progress on the Spring 2022 STAAR. District gains far exceeded the state,” Director of Communications Denise Meyers said.

MISD students improved their scores from 2021 as they tested higher this year in all subjects. Math and reading saw the highest jumps in performance, especially in approaching grade level, according to results.

In math, 81% of third graders approached grade level this year compared to 66% in 2021; 51% of third graders met grade level this year while 35% met grade level in 2021.

For reading, 79% of seventh grade students this year approached grade level, whereas 65% approached grade level in 2021. Further, 57% of seventh graders met grade level in this year, but 40% met grade level in 2021.


Reading scores were some of the highest with at least 76% of students in grades 3-8 approaching grade level. Math scores were also high with at least 66% of third through eighth graders approaching.

MISD students also performed well in science and social studies with at least 73% of fifth and eighth graders approaching grade level for science and 74% of eighth graders approaching grade level in social studies.
