Tomball ISD students consistently scored higher than the state average in reading, mathematics, science and social studies in the spring administration of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, according to results released July 1.
"I am a very proud superintendent for many reasons, but to consider the challenges we have faced in education since 2019, our 2022 STAAR results (Grades 3-8) are exceptionally strong. Not only do we lead all surrounding districts across the board in all performance levels and in all subjects, we also remain extremely competitive in comparison to similar districts across the state. These results demonstrate positive growth as well as validate the hard work put forth by our dedicated teachers and students this past year," TISD Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamora said in an email.
Reading scores were among some of the highest with at least 88% of students in grades 3-8 approaching grade level and all but one grade over 70% for meeting grade level. Math scores were also high with at least 86% of third through eighth graders approaching and all but one grade at 62% or higher.
TISD students also performed well in science and social studies with at least 88% of fifth and eighth graders approaching grade level for science and 82% of eighth graders approaching grade level.In addition, TISD students improved their scores from 2021 as they tested higher in 2022 in all subjects. Reading and math saw the highest jumps in performance, especially in approaching grade level.
For reading, 92% of seventh grade students in 2022 approached grade level whereas 85% approached grade level in 2021. Fourth graders met grade level at 77% in 2022, but 59% met grade level in 2021.
In math, 87% of fourth graders approached grade level in 2022 compared to 81% in 2021. Some 65% of third graders met grade level in 2022 while 50% met grade level in 2021.
