Of 1,029 Texas school districts, Magnolia ISD Superintendent Todd Stephens was selected as the Region 6 winner and one of 18 state finalists for the award. “The application process included strong leadership, school board relations, fiscal management, facilities management and school and community relations,” MISD Communications Director Denise Meyers said. There are 56 other school districts in Region 6, including Conroe, Montgomery, Navasota, New Caney, Brenham and College Station ISDs. Local school boards have the ability to nominate a superintendent each year, and the nomination is submitted to a regional selection committee. The group narrows down the pool to one nominee from each region to send to the state selection committee. Meyers said this is the first time Stephens has been nominated for the award. The award winner will be announced Oct. 3 at the 2015 Texas Association of School Administrators/TASB Convention in Austin.
