Tomball Regional Medical Center

HCA Holdings Inc. announced Monday that it will purchase two hospitals from Community Health Systems, including the 350-bed Tomball Regional Medical Center, nine locations of Affinity Medical Associates and the Affinity Emergency Center at Magnolia.

HCA—which operates 171 hospitals and 119 freestanding surgery centers across the U.S. and the United Kingdom—is expected to close on the deal this summer, which is subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions, according to a statement from HCA. The deal also included South Texas Regional Medical Center, a 67-bed hospital located south of San Antonio.

“Tomball Regional and South Texas Regional will fit in nicely with our provider systems in both Houston and San Antonio,” said Sam Hazen, president and chief operating officer of HCA, in a statement. “The addition of these two hospitals will enhance our ability to meet the medical needs in both areas and improve patient access to our provider networks.”

HCA also announced yesterday it will also purchase three hospitals in Houston from Tenet Health Care Corp., including the 423-bed Houston Northwest Medical Center and the 171-bed Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital.

That transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2017, which is also subject to regulatory approval, HCA officials said.
