Budget Highlights:
Staffing: The budget includes a 3 percent employee pay increase and funds for two new full-time employees—two school resource officers—and two part-time additional employees—a floater position in the finance department and an administrative position in the marketing department.
Infrastructure: The city has allocated $800,000 for extending water lines to Snook Lane and the surrounding area, $300,000 for improvements to Broussard Community Park and $323,541 for sidewalk improvements.
Wastewater: The city budgeted about $2 million to begin updates on its two wastewater treatment plants this year.
Budget increase: The increase in expenditures over last year’s budget is due to $23,682,969 in capital projects set to begin in FY 2016-17, such as Medical Complex Drive Segment 4B and M118 drainage channel.

Budget Highlights:
Staffing: The budget includes a 3 percent employee pay increase, excluding the police department, and funds for a new public works director position and a lieutenant position in the police department.
Sales tax drop: The fiscal year 2016-17 budget plans for a decrease in sales tax revenue over FY 2015-16 although overall revenue will increase from 2015-16.
Water rates: The city allocated $20,000 for a water rate study, but water rates will stay the same in FY 2016-17.
Utilities: The city’s budget proposes a $700,000 loan from the Texas Department of Transportation to relocate utilities for the FM 1774 overpass.
Correction: The property tax rate in the city of Magnolia was incorrectly noted as $0.4269. The correct tax rate is $0.4629, the same rate approved for fiscal year 2015-16. Additionally, Magnolia City Council will vote on its proposed budget Sept. 27 instead of Sept. 13.
