Fritos Y Mas, a family-owned restaurant serving Venezuelan cuisine, opened Feb. 16. Restaurant owners Marcial Vilchez Gerente and Maricruz Perozo said they hope to introduce the Tomball-area to its Venezuelan delights.

“We noticed the area lacked a Venezuelan restaurant and thought the community would appreciate one,” Gerente said.

How it happened

Restaurant owners Gerente and Perozo said they have experience as restaurant owners through their previous restaurant in Venezuela. After moving to the U.S. in 2017, the couple decided to bring their Venezuelan flavors to the restaurant located off Boudreaux Road.

Fritos Y Mas initially began as a home-based business in 2019. Gerente and Perozo started serving the community from their own kitchen as well as rented kitchens. The couple decided to establish the brick-and-mortar eatery for Fritos Y Mas in the Tomball area due to its high demand as well as the area's diverse community.

The details

Fritos y Mas offers a vibrant sit-down restaurant as well as catering and online delivery services. The menu includes a variety of fried Venezuelan dishes, including Venezuelan hamburgers and breads.

The new seasonal menu offers Venezuelan delights, such as pastelitos, a deep-fried wheat flour dough pocket stuffed with a choice of topping—cheese, chicken, ground beef or a pizza-flavored option.

The restaurant also offers Venezuelan hotdogs, known as panes, and tumbarranchos, a breaded and stuffed arepa filled with a slice of mortadella, soft Venezuelan cheese—cebu—fresh cabbage, salsa and tomato. The arepa can also be filled with chicken or ham.

Other menu items include empanadas, potatoes with cheese, and mandocas, plantain with cheese and brown sugar. The restaurant also offers Venezuelan sodas.
