Ogie’s Grill, named for David Ogie—the designer of the High Meadow Ranch golf course in Magnolia—opened with High Meadow Ranch in 2000, said Cody Spivey, general manager and golf club superintendent. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees, such as burgers, Tex-Mex cuisine, chicken wings and wraps. Ogie’s Grill offers its breakfast menu all day.

“We are actually known for our [inexpensive] burgers,” Spivey said. “That’s our staple item and our No. 1 seller for sure.”

Spivey said Ogie’s Grill features approximately 10 specialty dishes on Fridays that alternate every week in addition to the main menu.

“[The restaurant] originated with the typical golf-course food with burgers—you know, quick food—to get out the door,” Spivey said. “That has evolved now that the community has grown to where we [offer casual] dining. There’s not a lot of places you can go in Magnolia and Tomball where you can get a steak on a Friday night.”

Spivey said he has been the superintendent of the golf club since it was being built along with the residential community, located along FM 1774, in 1999.

“I’ve actually been here since day one,” he said. “Magnolia and Tomball were a lot smaller than they are now. There weren’t a lot of restaurants around.”

Although Ogie’s Grill serves golfers and residents of High Meadow Ranch, members of the Tomball and Magnolia communities also frequent the restaurant, Spivey said.

“The constable [officers] come in—I see them quite often—and a lot of doctors and people in town, because it’s kind of hidden and out of the way,” Spivey said. “The value is good for what you’re getting, so people appreciate that. I think a lot of people enjoy that they feel like they’re going somewhere [nice] without having to go very far.”

Spivey said Ogie’s Grill is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and hosts holiday-themed events as well as private parties.

“On Valentine’s [Day], we do a sweetheart dinner,” Spivey said.

“For Thanksgiving, we sell turkeys and stuffing and the whole nine yards, and [we] offer it three to four different ways. We usually do 50 to 80 [turkeys].”

Spivey said Ogie’s Grill seeks to offer guests a relaxing environment for High Meadow Ranch golfers, residents and the Magnolia community.

“A lot of restaurants you go to around town are pretty loud, and it’s hard to hear yourself,” he said. “We want it to be a relaxed, somewhat kind of rustic, laid-back atmosphere.”
