After months of vacancy and two failed leases, the Yellow House in downtown Magnolia will soon be home to Cajun Cantina, which will relocate from 19010 FM 1488 April 15.

Owner Lacey Park opened the eatery last July and announced plans to move earlier this week. The restaurant serves a selection of Cajun fare, such as crawfish, boudin, fried alligator, gumbo and etouffe.

Cajun Cantina is the third restaurant in less than a year to sign a lease on the house, located at 312 Commerce St., Magnolia. In January, Lisa Jackson announced plans to open Bo Vine, a steakhouse and wine bar, in the historic house and had expected to be complete by April 1. Jackson had planned to extend the patio for outdoor seating and renovate the first and second floor of the building.

“The deal fell through,” Park said. “Everything has been finalized [for Cajun Cantina and] we’ve been transferring things over and remodeling over there.”

Before that, popular Cypress-based burger restaurant The Shack had announced plans to open a third location but ultimately backed out of a 10-year lease to focus on existing operations, said Pat Zaiontz, Magnolia Planning and Zoning Commission member.

Park said once the relocation is complete, she will likely expand the menu and other offerings but any changes will not happen immediately.

“[We’re] just trying to get everything moved over and put in place right now and then we’ll take it from there,” she said.
