The three stations include Fire Station No. 187 at 3112 Lone Star Lane, Pinehurst, Fire Station No. 188 at 5815 FM 149, Magnolia, as well as Fire Station No. 189 at 7130 S. FM 1486, Montgomery. State Rep. Cecil Bell Jr., R-Magnolia, as well as MVFD officials, Montgomery County Emergency Services District No. 10 and the Greater Magnolia Chamber of Commerce gathered Sept. 15 to celebrate the station ground breaking ceremonies. “You’re talking not only providing greater resources for our firefighters, but you’re also talking about an enormous economic impact,” Bell said. “When you have fire coverage you reduce the cost of insurance. I very much value and appreciate our first responders, who stand between us and whatever threat is near at hand.” Bob Buschardt, Montgomery County ESD No. 10 president, said the approximate $3 million total cost for the three stations is funded through the 1 cent sales tax increase that was narrowly approved by voters in the May 2014 election. The ESD has received more than $1.7 million as of September 2015 from the additional sales tax collected. Each station will house an engine and tanker that can carry up to 4,000 gallons of water and will add specialized vehicles such as a booster truck in the future, Buschardt said. Construction is expected to be complete early next fall on the Magnolia and Montgomery fire stations but could span until December 2016 for the Pinehurst fire station due to the need for utility extensions, Buschardt said. “The stations will give us good, quick service throughout our fire district,” Buschardt said. “We’ve been working on this for a number of years. It’s nice to get to this point.”
