The Tomball Fire Department added six full-time firefighters in October, moving six individuals in the department from part-time to full-time status, according to a statement. This allows teams of three full-time employees for all three shifts at the city’s two fire stations, located on Rudel and Holderrieth roads, Chief Randy Parr said. “These positions will allow the organization to efficiently staff each of the two city stations with an officer, driver and firefighter and to move toward creating that safe and effective firefighting team,” Parr said in a statement. Funds for the new full-time positions were included in the city’s fiscal year 2018-19 budget, which began Oct. 1. The adopted budget includes an additional $256,811 to fund the six full-time roles, according to city budget documents. Community Impact Newspaper previously reported the new roles will replace about 20 part-time positions at the two fire stations. Parr said additional full-time positions could be added with funds from Emergency Services District No. 15 to man Station 5, which is located on Telge Road. The Tomball Fire Department contracts with ESD 15 to provide services within the special district.
