Updated Nov. 10 at 1:24 p.m. The adoption special has been extended to the end of November. Posted Nov. 6 at 4:30 p.m.  Montgomery County will take over temporary management of the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Conroe beginning Nov. 7 while interviews are conducted to find a new replacement. The decision was finalized Nov. 2 after Montgomery County Commissioners Court heard a number of concerns about the management of the shelter and condition of the animals from volunteers and other stakeholders. Commissioners Court voted during an Aug. 11 meeting to rescind its contract with Care Corporation, which had operated the animal shelter since January. According to statistics from the shelter, the facility has exceeded capacity. The shelter is housing 329 cats, 44 more than capacity, and 511 dogs, which is 76 more than capacity as of Nov. 5. To reduce overcrowding in the facility, the animal shelter will be holding a $25 pet adoption special Nov. 7-8. As part of the special, adopted pets are spayed and neutered and come having received their rabies vaccination and shots. Due to the transition in ownership, credit cards will not be accepted until Nov. 11. However, cash or checks are permitted with a valid ID. Additional information on adoptable animals can be found at www.mcaspets.org.
