When customers walk through the doors of Artisanat Home Decor, they can find a variety of handcrafted home decor products that were designed by local, national and international artists as well as by owner Melissa Arteaga.
Arteaga opened the home decor store in Creekside Park Village Green in December 2017 after deciding to not pursue her biology degree and to instead focus on something she loved to do.
“I was studying biology in school, and I needed an outlet,” she said. “I started doing wooden string art and painting signs, and I just did it for fun. Then it started to evolve, and people started buying my designs.”
Since opening her store, Arteaga said she can sell her designs as well as offer a variety of handcrafted furniture and home decor.
“We have furniture, wall accents and everything from pillows to wooden spoons,” Arteaga said. “It’s mostly things to pamper your house and make it a little cozier and more your own. Everything we have here is handcrafted, and everything is a small process and is made one by one. So, it’s a unique thing.”
In addition to her string art, Arteaga said she also makes light fixtures, wine racks and other wall decor that is popular among customers.
Arteaga said classes are also offered at the business to show how to make similar items found in the store. Birthday parties and private events can also be held at Artisanat.
Arteaga said she believes the handcrafted products and classes offered bring more awareness to art.
“It takes a lot of work for an artisan to make something,” she said. “So, whenever you buy a table or something else from us, I like to remind our customers that it is something that someone actually made with love and hard work. I think it is something that should continuously be appreciated.”
