IMPACT ROUNDUP: Abandoned Animal Rescue relocating to Magnolia, Restaurant Depot to open in Tomball Abandoned Animal Rescue will relocate from Tomball to Magnolia in mid-2017.[/caption]

Abandoned Animal Rescue will relocate from 419 E. Hufsmith Road, Tomball to a new facility on Wright Road in Magnolia, in mid-2017. The no-kill animal shelter purchased seven acres of land in Magnolia in early June about three miles north of AAR’s current location.

The new property has an existing house that will become the office, cattery and the clinic, and a warehouse-type building will be built in back for the dogs. The shelter will continue to house the same number of animals for now, but the new facility will provide more room for storage and better accommodations for the animals, volunteer Karen Pitcock said.

"That's going to give us more storage, it will give us a larger clinic...[and] with our warehouse building, we'll be able to add onto that to take in more animals eventually, depending on volunteers," she said.

AAR also plans to build Clark’s Bark Park in memorial of an avid dog lover who rescued dogs.

"It's just going to give us a nice fresh start," Pitcock said.

Colliers International sold the land to Restaurant Depot for its new store. Tom Condon, senior vice president of Colliers International, said the company chose Tomball because of the growth of small businesses in the area.

“[Restaurant Depot] serve[s] the independent restaurant market and identified the Tomball area as a not only existing but growing market for independent restaurants,” Condon said. “That’s part of why they’re expanding to Tomball so they can serve that market.”
