Sallie Fisher has owned Sallie Fisher’s Art Gallery in Tomball since 1998. Fisher relocated her business a year ago from Commerce Street to West Main Street, where she carries limited edition and Western-themed artwork and offers customized framing services.
“I’ve been in the business off and on for 40 years,” Fisher said. “I’ve always leaned [toward] art. I like the excitement of being able to create something by decorating somebody’s home or office, or just introducing people to the art.”
Fisher said customers can bring in personal pieces of artwork and select from more than 100 samples of mats and frames. She designs the layout for a piece, and her husband, Bill, frames the artwork.
“The object when you frame something is to look at the subject, and then look out and you see the mat and the frame,” she said.
Fisher said she offers artwork from more than 40 nationally known and internationally known artists. One artist, Larry Dyke, is known for being the only living American artist to have an original piece hanging in the Vatican Museum in Rome, she said.
Buck Taylor, another artist Fisher represents, played the character Newly O’Brien in the TV series “Gunsmoke,” she said.
“Most of the artists I carry, I know them personally,” Fisher said. “[Buck Taylor] and I have been friends for over 40 years ... He’s a real-life American cowboy. ”
Fisher offers special ordering services for customers as well as the appraisal of artwork. She also offers to help customers hang art in their homes or businesses. Along with limited edition pieces, Sallie Fisher’s carries Texas relics, including maps, paintings of the Alamo and letters from former commander of the Texas Army, William B. Travis.
“We offer a personal service to folks,” Fisher said. “I have a large selection that they can choose from. We have high-end art and art that’s affordable for any income.”
