The Tomball German Heritage Festival returns to downtown Tomball for its 17th year this weekend, March 31-April 2. The family-friendly festival offers a variety of carnival rides, performers and vendors for guests of all ages.

With many guests expected to visit downtown Tomball this weekend, here's what you need to know before the festival.

Location, time and date
Activities stretch from Market to Elm streets near the Tomball Historic Depot Plaza, located at 201 S. Elm Street.

The festival kicks off on Thursday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. with music by Alex Meixner. The kick-off party will be held at the new Fire Ant Brewing development on the corner of Cherry and Market streets.

Events are held Friday, March 31, from 6-10 p.m. The street festival is open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 2.

Admission
The festival is free to attend. However, carnival rides and food are available at an additional cost. A $15 all-you-can-ride armband is only available on Thursday evening when the carnival opens, according to the festival website.

Parking and shuttle service
The festival features free parking and a free shuttle service to the festival grounds. The shuttle will pick up and drop off guests at the Tomball Regional Medical Center, located at 605 Holderrieth Road, Tomball, throughout Saturday and Sunday.

  • east lot of TRMC (605 Holderrieth Road)

  • Lone Star College-Tomball Health Science Building (700 Graham Drive)

  • medical office complex at Graham and School streets

  • medical office complex at James and School streets

  • Tomball Public Works building (501 James St.)


Entertainment
From food to folk dancers, the festival features no shortage of entertainment options. A parade arrives at the festival grounds around 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by opening ceremonies with Tomball Mayor Gretchen Fagan.

Additional entertainment includes:

  • German food

  • beer and wine

  • carnival rides

  • street performers

  • petting zoo

  • pony rides

  • nearly 200 vendors

  • four music stages

  • folk dancers from local high schools

  • clogging

  • accordion players
