“It is important for township residents to prepare now for an active hurricane season,” said Palmer Buck, chief of The Woodlands Fire Department. “Forecasts predict a 60% chance of higher-than-normal activity this season with 13 to 20 named storms, and a possibility of as many as 10 becoming hurricanes with up to five categorized as major hurricanes. Planning ahead now can help your family safely weather potential storms.”
On June 4, the township released a list of resources and emergency preparedness measures for residents to consider.
* Residents should formulate an emergency plan for their family and pets. This could include designating an out-of-town contact to maintain text message communication with loved ones.
* Families should identify a location in their neighborhood as a meeting place in case of separation.
* An emergency supply kit should be prepared including water, batteries, nonperishable food, flashlights, a first-aid kit, a battery-powered radio, back-up charging options for cell phones and other items listed at www.ready.gov/kit or www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/438/Hurricane-Prep-Checklist.
* Important documents and financial information should be kept in a waterproof document bag, or visit https://ready.gov/get-tech-ready for storage tips.
