According to unofficial early voting results May 7, Tom Coale, Alex Jones and Michelle Cassio have won Positions 1, 3 and 4, respectively, for Oak Ridge North City Council.

Incumbent Coale garnered 419 votes, or 56.32 percent, for the Position 1 seat, while opponent Ray Parker earned 321 votes, or 43.38 percent. Coale works as a CPA and has been on the Oak Ridge North City Council for six years. If re-elected, he said he would continue to contribute his knowledge and experience as a CPA and listen to the citizens of the city.

"I'm going to continue to do as I did in the past and make the best decisions I can for the city," Coale said. "I'll take input from all the citizens and hear their ideas and try to make it the best little hometown that we have."


Jones garnered 435 votes, or 58.78 percent, for the Position 3 seat, while opponent David Weathersby earned 305 votes, or 41.22 percent.


Jones works for Micro Focus as a software support engineer leader and is a member of the Oak Ridge North Planning and Zoning Commission. Jones said he understands the issues that are facing the city and its residents, and he will work on finding fiscally responsible solutions to the city's problems if elected.


"I'm really excited and very happy to win," Jones said. "I appreciate the votes, and I congratulate my opponent, David Weathersby. He ran a great campaign. I plan to serve the city the best I can."


Cassio garnered 434 votes, or 58.26 percent, for the Position 4 seat while opponent Marilyn Cook earned 311 votes, or 41.74 percent. Cassio is the owner of Cassio Creations Fine Jewelry and vice chairwoman of the Oak Ridge North Planning and Zoning Commission.


Cassio said she has an interest in the city's future and economic growth. She said she will bring an open and honest opinion on how to make Oak Ridge North a safer and better place to live.


"I'm very excited and glad to be a part of a super team," Cassio said. "I hope to do the best that I can."
